The Metal Building Group (“MBG”) is looking to add an Estimator who can immediately add value to its team of professionals. Position Overview:

As an Estimator with MBG, your key responsibility will be to work closely with the Sales, Project Management, and Construction team to ensure constructability, costing and profitability of projects.


As an Estimator with MBG, your key responsibility will be to work closely with the Sales, Project Management, and Construction team to ensure constructability, costing and profitability of projects.

  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates, tendering and contracts
  • Utilize and become an expert user of proprietary in?house pre?engineered metal building design and estimating software
  • Establish unit costs, labour rates, productivity factors and location impacts
  • Prepare quantity take?offs and estimates, including preparation of estimatesfor conceptual designs
  • Assist in?house sales, project managers and construction teams with frontend work on specifications
  • Design, build and implement estimating models for various project types
  • Conduct materials and pricing research
  • Build and maintain an estimating database
  • Develop subcontract interest in projects and manage the subcontractor RFPprocess.
  • Maintain preferred vendor, supplier, and trade database
  • Review documents and scope of work for trade packages and in?houseforces
  • Provide internal estimates and conduct review meetings
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing technical publications
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A leader that assumes all responsibility for their work
  • 3 to 10 years working in the construction industry in a similar role
  • Experience as an estimator in the metal building industry
  • Estimating experience in civil, rough carpentry and foundations
  • Experience and knowledge of more than one discipline in constructionmanagement or design/build
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma, or formal education in Construction, BuildingTechnology, Drafting, Project Management, Engineering or Architecture
  • Advanced MS Excel and MS Project skills to prepare cost quotes and bids
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and spatial thinking necessary to domaterial and labour estimates, and interpret job cost reports
  • Ability to read and interpret building specifications, blueprints and as?builds
  • An understanding of various building types, traditional subcontractor workscopes, construction systems and methods, construction specifications, tendering practices and contract types
  • Demonstrated initiative and positive attitude
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; responds timely to others
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and externalstakeholders
  • Possesses strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills
  • Plans ahead and prioritizes tasks to meet commitments and anticipateobstacles
